Water and flowers

Watercolor - ahh, my love.  I am still learning so much about how it moves. Love the imperfection of it all.

Last week my husband and I went to EPCOT at Disney World to see the Flower & Garden Festival. I saw this scene and grabbed my camera knowing that this was the perfect vista for this week: It's water under the bridge. Loved the floating rounds of flowers atop the lake while its banks were lined with gorgeous beds of color.

Using pen over watercolor is such fun as it defines and adds whimsy to the scene. (Hint: it covers a myriad of goofs as well!)

I cut my watercolor paper to 14 x 7 with the plans of cutting it down the middle and putting half on each side of my journal with a frame of white space.

I splattered white dots on the page using gouache which is an opaque watercolor.

Here is a "learn from me" moment.  I put the watercolor paper in my art journal with a scrapbooking tape runner and it stayed down about 30 seconds.  ACK! I will be trying something with much more staying power!

Please make sure you visit our Featured Artist this week, my watercolor role model Gina Lee Kim! She rocks and if you are not following her on Instagram well, dude...you are missing out!!
